Explore the magic of powerless flight and soar like an eagle

Take a 20 min. sailplane ride at the Crystalaire glider port, a beautiful scenic location at the San Gabriel mountain foothills, 20 miles east of Palmdale in Llano (1 ½ hrs from LA). Check out some pictures and more info on the website; http://www.soaringacademy.org/

Your certified pilot will give you the thrill of a lifetime. This unforgettable experience will cost USD 96,- with a percentage of the cost going towards the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (donations over USD 96,- are welcome and will go all to the LLS).

Maximum 20 people can fly that day, so act fast.

We will fly in 4 different time slots:

• The first rides will start at 9 am
• The second rides will start at 11 am
• The third rides will start at 1 pm
• The last rides will start at 3 pm

7am – 4pm in North Hollywood, called “Yard Sale for a Cure”. If you’re not doing anything, or know of anyone in that area, stop by!

Ooops! I mean to post this yesterday. If you’re not doing anything tonight, this should be one fun event! It’s been one helluva week of fundraisers!

“Hey folks! Hope you can all make it out to this classy and sophisticated benefit… There will be a keg, vodka, and plenty of red cups.

Kyle, Scott, and I are all running the San Diego Marathon while raising money for cancer research, and we all agree that there’s no better way to save lives than to do it with a beer in hand. In exchange for open bar, great company, and a flip cup tournament (!), all we ask is a $10 donation, with all proceeds going to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I even heard a rumor that there will be cake pops made by yours truly… But that’s only if enough people RSVP.

The party is at my house/commune in Culver City, and neighborhood parking should be ample. Bring friends and your $10 bill, and we’ll take care of the rest. Seriously, when was the last time you partied on the Westside and only spent $10? It’s quite a deal.

In addition, if you and three friends want to contend for the title of 2009 Westside Cancer-Fighting Flip Cup Champions, it’s a $20 entry for team of 4, and the winning team gets a fancy prize. Just show up with your team and an extra $5 apiece, and let the competition begin!

I know we don’t have many rest stops here in Santa Monica or even neighboring cities, but here’s a unique fundraiser from last year by Katie and Renae from TNT Washington. They’ve documented what they did, and their results for you.

It’s a week full of wine with a wine tasting event the following day by Sheena DeLutri in Marina Del Rey. Please tell your wine enthusiasts, or those who are willing to learn more about wines!

“Please join us at Fine Wine Storage on May 7th and taste fine wines from France. The cost is only $35 at the door and includes the wine and dinner! Also, local wine steward, Bob Eggers will be there to educate us about the wines! 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Leukemia is the number one killing disease in children and affects 10 times as many adults. Tasting wine is such an easy way to help save lives!!

“As most of you are aware we are training for the San Diego Marathon with Team in Training and raising money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. In an ongoing effort to reach our fundraising goal we have come up with a creative way to get your money!

Please join us for cocktails at Bodega Wine Bar on Wednesday, May 6th. Bodega will be generously donating a percentage of their earnings from that night to our team. The more people that attend the more money we make so bring a pal (or three) and come prepared to drink up. We know its a school night and for those of you who don’t live on the westside its a trek, but let’s be honest who needs an excuse to have a drink.

We will be getting there at 6 pm but will be there until at least 11 pm so feel free to come whenever!

P.S. we will be enforcing a three drink minimum!!”

Video took forever to upload, so it will take time before you see the other performances. Photos and recap coming soon! Great job to Jesyka, Maura, and Erin, who put together a really fun event!

Calling All Participants! We want to feature your past events here as we’re approaching the final months of the season (*tear*), so please e-mail us at westsidelatnt [at] gmail.com, and send us links to photos, videos, and a small writeup (doesn’t have to be long) about how it went – atmosphere, what you did, what you learned… anything! We know (mentors, captains, and coaches) can’t make it to everyone’s event, so we’d like to know!

You know how we love finding some great fundraising ideas outside our team? We also love promoting them too! Here’s an interesting fundraising event that I found browsing through The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Community Forums, and it’s quite a unique one. It’s titled, Running 50k to Raise $50k, planned by OC TNT’s Steve Chaparro. His goal this season is $50,000!

“While I am training, I will be holding a major fundraising event called “Run 50k to Raise $50k”. This event will consist of a 50 km (31 miles) on a treadmill. RunRaise50k will occur at The Block at Orange on May 23, 2009. The event will also be broadcast live online. Supporters will be asked to donate onsite or online during the event. Also, several restaurants will be holding fundraisers on the same day in which they will donate a portion of their proceeds to LLS.”

It’s going to be an 80’s flashback weekend, with Friday being the Miss TNT Pageant, 80’s Style, then on Saturday, your Team Captain Gretchen, is throwing a spin class fundraiser!

$15 donation benefits The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and includes:
60 min spin class led by certified instructors, Molly and Reza, to the most awesome 80’s songs (music videos included!!) in your most awesome 80’s attire with some awesome prizes and not to mention an awesome workout for an awesome cause!
