Here’s a comedic angle to a fundraising video I came across YouTube last night, made by an on-camera host, stand-up comedian, and radio personality from the San Francisco Bay Area, Sandy Stec. It’s an entertaining video to watch, and I’m sure some of you can relate to her opinions. Funny!

and here she is again, with images and video from her last marathon:

Sing a Song

9:24 am, by Marvin

I love finding participant-created videos for their fundraising efforts on YouTube. It’s interesting to see all the different types – funny, serious, music videos, etc. This time, it’s an original song/video by Lady Southpaw, “Music To Run To”

Check out this video created last year by Brian and Jamie Moniz from the valley TNT Team. They used some creativity to create this hilarious montage video to help with their fundraising. I’d donate if I saw something like this! Wouldn’t you? You should try to make one too!

It’s awesome to see so many fundraising events planned this early in the season! There’s been so many that we can’t be at all of them. This is where you come in.

If you have an event coming up, please write us a small article on what it’s all about! Give us the details (date, location, times, websites, and flyers), and we’ll post it here on the site! Realize that you can’t rely on just Erin’s e-mails to push your event out, or just an e-vite. Try to use as many resources as you can get if you want to your event to succeed.

If your event already passed, we would like to know how it went! Send us links to photo albums, videos – all of it. Please write us a little recap of how you thought your event went. Let the readers know of what your expectations were, and also what you’ve learned coming out of it. Why should you do this? So we can all learn as a group, so our events could improve as time goes on. It’s great to learn from other people’s experiences. There’s no need to reinvent the wheel if someone else wants to do the same event!

E-mail your events & stories to: westsidelatnt [at] gmail.com

Thank you all for your support and readership so far!

Our Fundraising Captain, Erin Shulsinger lost a bet to our Mentor Dash Nash and had to do an ode to him in front of the entire team this past Sunday!

I can’t remember the last time I received a written letter. Nowadays, people just e-mail, IM, or certain relatives would write their annual family update letters attached to their Christmas cards. I do remember the days of junior high or high school when I would receive letters from friends telling me how bored they were in class, hear about the gossip of who like who, or just to simply keep in touch. Are those days gone?

Here’s an interesting and inspiring piece on Peyton Manning, who actually writes letters to his peers. I bet you didn’t know that?

Some people who go through Team in Training don’t think about continuing to write their letters and sending them through the post office after the free postage incentive. Sure it may cost a little more, but if you think about it, if you flipped the cards and you were on the person receiving the letter, wouldn’t you appreciate a nice letter? A fully hand-written letter might be the most effective, but a well written typed letter with a signature is just as great. Don’t just use the pre-made template – customize it, and actually update them with what has been going on in your life. Including a SASE (Self Addressed Stamped Envelope) helps too. If anything, you’ve reconnected with someone.

If you want more tips on letter writing (and other great fundraising ideas), here’s a great post on letter writing on a really useful TNT blog called, Sweating for Fun and Profit5 Tips to a Successful Fundraising Letter
