My name is Javier C. Rivera. By day I am an attorney specializing in civil and commercial litigation. At night and on weekends, I am a cancer fighting avenger with a mission of finding a cure for blood cancers. About 2.5 years ago, I thought running was a boring waste of time and I hated every second of the sport. Now, through TNT, running is my stress reliever, as well as a new hobby. I joined the team, like many of you, because my life was unexpectedly changed by blood cancer. My story is a bit long to tell here, but if you want to hear it during a long run, just ask! =)

I started my journey with TNT as a participant for the 2007 San Diego Rock ‘N Roll marathon. After completing my first full marathon with the team I came back, first as a mentor, then as fundraising/social captain, and now I am the Mission Captain. My job, no scratch that, my privilege is to remind each and every one of you WHY it is that we are all here, and to connect each and every one of you to the cause. Each week at practice I will lead a Mission moment for the Team. The Mission moment will vary, for example it may be a personal story, a bone marrow donor sign-up, pot-luck dinners at an Honored Teammates home, hospital visits, or just a quick “GO TEAM!” And if you are worried about finishing your race, I understand your fear and I am here to promise you, that we won’t give up as long as you don’t give up. We will get you across the finish line.

I can honestly say that Team In Training is hands down the best organization I have ever had the privilege to be a part of. I look forward to sharing great moments with you and trust me on this one…you will have a great time.
