It’s a week full of wine with a wine tasting event the following day by Sheena DeLutri in Marina Del Rey. Please tell your wine enthusiasts, or those who are willing to learn more about wines!

“Please join us at Fine Wine Storage on May 7th and taste fine wines from France. The cost is only $35 at the door and includes the wine and dinner! Also, local wine steward, Bob Eggers will be there to educate us about the wines! 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Leukemia is the number one killing disease in children and affects 10 times as many adults. Tasting wine is such an easy way to help save lives!!

You know we sometimes we like to bask in the sun after a nice run (and after a few nights of fun fundraising and partying). Happy Birthday to our fundraising captain Erin, and teammate Kyle!

On Sunday, we started the practice with coach Chris giving us an update to our honored teammate, Laura, then Eliana and her daughter telling us their story (we thank you so much for sharing! you know you have our support 110%!). As far as training, most of us ran 12 miles (8 for half marathoners) on our taper week before the big 20 miler next Sunday!! We can’t express how much we’re so proud of all you to come this far… it’s so amazing! Keep it up!

“As most of you are aware we are training for the San Diego Marathon with Team in Training and raising money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. In an ongoing effort to reach our fundraising goal we have come up with a creative way to get your money!

Please join us for cocktails at Bodega Wine Bar on Wednesday, May 6th. Bodega will be generously donating a percentage of their earnings from that night to our team. The more people that attend the more money we make so bring a pal (or three) and come prepared to drink up. We know its a school night and for those of you who don’t live on the westside its a trek, but let’s be honest who needs an excuse to have a drink.

We will be getting there at 6 pm but will be there until at least 11 pm so feel free to come whenever!

P.S. we will be enforcing a three drink minimum!!”

I just could not wait to post this amazing dance intro by your teammates, Maura Feerick and Erin Shulsinger from last night’s Miss TNT Pageant: 80’s style! Video took forever to upload, so it will take time before you see the other performances. Photos and recap coming soon! Great job to Jesyka, Maura, and Erin, who put together a really fun event!

Calling All Participants! We want to feature your past events here as we’re approaching the final months of the season (*tear*), so please e-mail us at westsidelatnt [at] gmail.com, and send us links to photos, videos, and a small writeup (doesn’t have to be long) about how it went – atmosphere, what you did, what you learned… anything! We know (mentors, captains, and coaches) can’t make it to everyone’s event, so we’d like to know!

You know how we love finding some great fundraising ideas outside our team? We also love promoting them too! Here’s an interesting fundraising event that I found browsing through The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Community Forums, and it’s quite a unique one. It’s titled, Running 50k to Raise $50k, planned by OC TNT’s Steve Chaparro. His goal this season is $50,000!

From his fundraising website,
“While I am training, I will be holding a major fundraising event called “Run 50k to Raise $50k”. This event will consist of a 50 km (31 miles) on a treadmill. RunRaise50k will occur at The Block at Orange on May 23, 2009. The event will also be broadcast live online. Supporters will be asked to donate onsite or online during the event. Also, several restaurants will be holding fundraisers on the same day in which they will donate a portion of their proceeds to LLS.”

It’s going to be an 80’s flashback weekend, with Friday being the Miss TNT Pageant, 80’s Style, then on Saturday, your Team Captain Gretchen, is throwing a spin class fundraiser!

$15 donation benefits The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and includes:
60 min spin class led by certified instructors, Molly and Reza, to the most awesome 80’s songs (music videos included!!) in your most awesome 80’s attire with some awesome prizes and not to mention an awesome workout for an awesome cause!

They will have to go through 3 vigorous rounds of Q & A sessions, as well as display their talent during the talent portion of the show. Come one, come all.. See who our judges (yes.. they are being judged) will crown the 2009 SPRING MISS TNT WINNER!. Date auction to follow!

I know it’s tough fundraising alone, so we recommend teaming up to help spread the word of your events and fundraisers. One place to start is your mentor group. Another is someone from your pace group. It doesn’t stop there.

It’s common to see fundraisers hosted by multiple teams within our Greater LA chapter of Team in Training. We’ve had large fundraisers with the Tri Team, and the Iron Man Team for the Bachelor Auction, Karaoke Nights, and Pub Crawls, but I just had a few thoughts while driving to work this morning. Hopefully it will spark up some new ideas for upcoming events.

How about joining forces with other teams and chapters? Do you know friends from the Valley, SGV, Long Beach, or Orange County Teams? Why not meet some over TNT forums and social sites? What kind of fundraisers are possible there? This way we’re not always marketing to ourselves, we can have a wider reach, and you get to meet other TNT participants from other areas.

How about having fundraisers with other non-profits? I think these type of events could get a lot more marketing coverage, and showing that Team in Training is willing to work with other organizations is a good thing. As far as donations go, just split it as you would working with another team member. Imagine a joint TNT and American Cancer Society event. The potential for this could be HUGE.

I think joining forces will ease your own stress. It’s beneficial because you can divide up your tasks to multiple people, and focus on things that you excel in. In brainstorm sessions you will see many different angles. The buzz for your event will be that much greater because you’ll cover many circles of friends that you normally wouldn’t get if you did all this alone.

Who is ready to party? We are!!!! Come join your friends & fellow Team in Training buddies for a night full of fun & excitement! We will be taking over The Boulevard from 4:00-9:00pm on Sunday April 5th, so mark your calendars!
Parking is very limited- you can park @ the Bank of America next door since the bank is closed!

The night includes:

• Instrumental Version of “Eye of the Tiger” played by TNT Members
